Tarran Sklenar

Tarran Sklenar is a Seattle-based artist with an active studio practice in the heart of Pioneer Square. She received her BFA from Iowa State University in 2013 and her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Washington in 2017. Her work is centered on personal narratives that have influenced her interest in crime and art history as it relates our current contemporary discourse. Using a range of source material drawing from 19th century etchings to abstract expressionism, she seeks to explore the relationship between power and the body. Through gestural abstraction, her work appears as psychologically charged narratives that reveal themselves slowly and deal with themes of sublimation and human nature.
