Krista Schoening

Krista Schoening (b.1980) is a painter who lives in Seattle, WA. Her work is inspired by historical still life painting -- particularly 17th century Netherlandish flower paintings. In much of her work Schoening focuses on garden plants -- organisms that make visible the negotiation between human desires and the needs of plants, resulting in a diversity of forms and colors.

Schoening's work has been exhibited in both commercial and public galleries, including the Henry Art Gallery (Seattle, WA), the Grand Rapids Art Museum (Grand Rapids, MI), the Lesher Center for the Arts (Walnut Creek, CA), and the Susquehanna Art Museum (Harrisburg, PA). She holds both an MFA in Painting and Drawing and an MA in Art History from the University of Washington. Schoening teaches college classes locally and offers workshops in painting and drawing through Studio Escalier, a small studio school in France.
