Rebecca Luncan

Rebecca luncan

Seattle artist, Rebecca Luncan (formerly Rebecca Raven) has exhibited her paintings internationally and is recognized for the realism of her portraiture, particularly her smaller portraits, and for her dramatic adaptations of film stills. She has received numerous awards and been represented in galleries and museums across the United States and internationally, including the Gas Gallery in Torino, Italy.

Rebecca is perennially inspired by silent film director and star Buster Keaton, by his optimism and determination, and by the grace, craft and subtlety of his films. Also she is captivated by the power and intimacy of the miniature portraits of Nicholas Hilliard, which she first encountered at Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace during a Wilder Traveling Scholarship. The influence of these artists has informed her work’s central concerns, including the subtlety of human gesture and the expressiveness of living things, drama and the impact o context, and explorations of format and color palette.

As her personal artwork increasingly tended to the field of portraiture, she began taking portrait commissions. Finding the process to be extremely rewarding, she now splits her studio time equally between commissioned portraits and personal creative work.
